Vendor Spotlight: Will from Dancing DJ Productions

Collage of wedding professionals: smiling makeup artist, baker stacking cakes, planner with book, photographer in action. Text: Helping Hands Highlights.

Picture this: The dance floor is packed. Guests of every generation are spinning, swaying, and shouting lyrics like it's the chorus of their own lives.

The energy is electric because the DJ knows how to read the crowd and make magic in real time.

This was the vibe at a recent wedding we supported, where DJ Dylan from Dancing DJ Productions had everyone on their feet and in the moment.

But what truly impressed us?

During lulls between stages of the event and transitions in the timeline, DJ Dylan went out of his way and stepped up to help the vendor team, no questions asked. That’s the kind of professionalism and passion that can’t be taught, and it's the kind of quality that owner Will Chitwood has cultivated since founding the most five-star reviewed DJ company in San Diego.

In this spotlight interview, we’ll talk with Will about what makes Dancing DJ Productions a standout in the industry, how they tailor every event to a couple’s unique vibe, and why thoughtful preparation is at the heart of every unforgettable celebration.

The Interview

Introduce yourself and tell us about your business.

I'm the owner & head DJ of my company, Dancing DJ Productions!

We're a Southern California based DJ & photo booth company. We have a wide variety of amazing DJs in all styles, including bilingual options!

What inspired you to get into the wedding industry?

I had a good friend who had a DJ business when I was a teenager.

He asked me to start coming to weddings and events. Shortly after, I was hooked! I love being the person responsible for bringing the music and energy to one of the biggest days in couples' lives!

Veronica Martinez-Goodman comment:  Picking the right music is such an artform! We always notice the extra layer that a great DJ adds to an event.

How long have you been in this line of work, and what do you love most about it?

I've been doing this since 2001!

DJ Will Chitwood

I really love being part of all types of events from 15 people to 1000 or more. I love how music can really change the energy and vibe of a space!

What brings me happiness is how our team is able to bring that energy and fun to large numbers of events every week!

Veronica Martinez-Goodman comment: We love that! All groups have their unique vibe and making them happy is always just as unique.

What specific services do you offer to couples, and what makes your approach unique?

We can do most types of events ranging from weddings and corporate events to all types of parties, school dances, and fundraisers.

What makes us unique is that we really listen to each client to make sure we're playing the music and vibe they're looking for at their event! We're also very good at bringing the energy through great MCing for the announcements!

VMG comment: Yes, we witnessed this energy by one of your amazing DJs at a wedding this past April. We noticed how your music choice just “clicked” with the audience. It added to the already personalized experience of the wedding. The right music adds so much character!!

How do you tailor your services to fit a couple’s unique vision or needs?

We have a custom online planning area each couple gets to fill out with all their song requests, formalities songs, timeline, etc.

We then do a final planning call to talk through the plan to incorporate all their songs, announcements, lighting, and vision for the night so they feel excited and ready to celebrate!

What’s one thing couples might not know about what goes into your work?

Each of our DJs spends on average 2 to 8 hours per event prepping the song list and details to make sure every event goes perfectly!

VMG comment: Wow, I didn’t know this! So great to know. Detailed preparation ahead of an event really is so important for high quality services no matter what type of vendor you are. Even if a wedding is only a few hours, the beforehand work can take hours!

What’s a common mistake or regret you see, and how can couples avoid it?

I think the most common regret is couples wishing they had more time to celebrate and talk to the guests.

I'm a fan of first looks where the couple can get most of the photos done prior to the ceremony so they have time to mingle at cocktails!

VMG comment: Yes, the day really goes by so fast! It can be hard to make time for everything. Getting the photos out of the way so everyone can focus on quality time after the ceremony is a great idea.

What is your number one tip for newly engaged couples planning their wedding?

Taking the time to research each vendor and making sure they're a good fit for what you're looking for.

Check out their online reviews and content. Doing a phone or video interview is always a good idea to make sure you vibe!

What is your number one tip for couples toward the end of the planning process?

Try to finalize your details by 2 weeks prior so you're not stressing on last minute planning right before the wedding.

That way you can relax and enjoy the big day!

VMG comment: Great tip! Staying ahead is so important, especially when there are so many elements that go into a wedding. Stress on your big day is the worst, and the only way to avoid it is planning ahead.

Do you have any tips for couples who feel overwhelmed by too many options?

I would recommend doing initial research on each vendor category and breaking it down to your top 3 in each area.

Then spend more time going in depth on your top 3 to pick your favorite!

VMG comment: Totally. Breaking down your options into categories and limiting to no more than 3 really helps. We always recommend couples give themselves plenty of time for this part of planning too!

If you could change one thing about how weddings are typically planned, what would it be?

Photos are typically the thing that delays timelines the most.

The weddings that have first looks usually stay on schedule. However, if all the photos are done during cocktails, it can easily take longer than planned.

If the couple leaves for sunset photos, that can also delay formalities if not timed well.

VMG comment: Those are great points. The timeline of photos can really impact the flow of the day and is so important to really think out ahead of time. Photos are also one of those day-of things that are easy to underestimate.

Can you share a memorable moment or favorite wedding experience you’ve had?

One of my recent weddings was an Indian and Western American wedding at the Tower Beach Club in Mission Beach San Diego.

We had a variety of people and cultures there, and I really enjoyed getting to incorporate a wide mix of music! They also had a surprise dance routine!

VMG comment: Love this! We love Tower Beach Club and we always love to see the mixing of cultures. We even shared our experience working at Tower Beach Club and featured them in one of our past Vendor Spotlights!

What do you think sets your business apart in the wedding industry?

Since we have a large team of DJs, clients get to pick which DJ they feel fits well for their vibe. We also have bilingual options!

In addition, we're the most reviewed DJ company in San Diego with all 5 star ratings for clients to research! Couples can feel confident they'll have an amazing, personalized, and enjoyable experience with us!

VMG comment: This is so amazing and truly goes to show how wonderful your team is! Your reviews are so well-deserved, we’ve loved working with you.

The way you carefully curate the vibe of the day really elevates the experience for the guest and especially the couple. When we worked together, it was all smiles!

How can couples best get in touch with you, and what should they prepare for an initial consultation?

You can reach us at dancingdjproductions.com or (619) 514-3117. We always recommend having your wedding date, venue, and event timeframe so we can give you an accurate quote!
