This time around, we chatted with Stephan Aarstol, founder of Tower Beach Club, a breathtaking event venue located right on Mission Bay in San Diego. It offers couples the perfect blend of luxury and personalization.

The Interview
Introduce yourself and tell us about your business.
At Tower Beach Club, we offer a 4,300 sq ft indoor/outdoor event venue with 270-degree panoramic views of Mission Bay in San Diego.
Established in 2019, our venue is ideal for weddings, private parties, and corporate events, providing a quintessential Southern California beach experience.
What inspired you to get into the wedding industry?
Recognizing a demand for affordable yet stunning waterfront venues in San Diego, we were inspired to create a space that embodies the SoCal beach vibe without the high-end price tag, allowing couples to celebrate their special day in a breathtaking setting.
This actually started as our offices and retail space for our eCommerce company but once we started diving into it we realized we had a unique and amazing venue that books itself.
Veronica Martinez-Goodman comment: I love how that transition worked out for you! It’s funny how great ideas are born like that. And I can attest that the venue location is stunning! We LOVE working events there.
How long have you been in this line of work, and what do you love most about it?
Since opening in 2019, we've been dedicated to hosting memorable events. What I like most about running a venue is that I feel our space is gaining great karma event by event—it's truly become a source and reminder of an amazing life moment for tens of thousands of guests and it grows every year.
VMG comment: I love how you said that, and I completely agree! It truly is amazing to play a part in all of these beautiful life moments. It really makes you remember to celebrate and appreciate life.
What specific services do you offer to couples, and what makes your approach unique?
We provide a versatile venue that includes tables, chairs, and lounge furniture.
Couples have the freedom to bring their own food, beverages, and select their preferred vendors, offering flexibility and cost savings. Our panoramic doors seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a unique and customizable environment.
How do you tailor your services to fit a couple’s unique vision or needs?
By offering an open-vendor policy and the option to BYOB, couples can personalize every aspect of their wedding. Our adaptable indoor and outdoor spaces can be configured to match various themes and sizes, ensuring each event reflects the couple's unique vision.
VMG comment: We love the flexibility and ability to customize the layout of your event at this venue. Every time we work an event the setup is a little bit different and it’s so cool to see how each couple truly makes it their own!
What’s one thing couples might not know about what goes into your work?
Tower Beach Club was founded out of an eCommerce beach lifestyle brand that sells paddle boards and eBikes—so the venue is deeply rooted in the coastal lifestyle we promote.
Our company was also featured on Shark Tank, and we’re 30% owned by Mark Cuban, which adds a unique entrepreneurial spirit to everything we do.

What’s a common mistake or regret you see, and how can couples avoid it?
A common regret is underestimating the importance of a well-thought-out timeline. We advise couples to plan ample time for setup, photography, and transitions to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable day.
VMG comment: Yes! This is a huge one, and, sadly, it happens all too often!
What is your number one tip for newly engaged couples planning their wedding?
Focus on the vibe of your venue first—everything else will grow from that. Your venue sets the tone for your entire wedding, from decor to guest experience.
Also, when budgeting, it's crucial to choose a venue that allows you to bring your own vendors or BYOB because that's where the lion’s share of costs come from. Many venues advertise a low “room rate” but then lock you into $120 per plate catering and $14 drinks, which can quickly spiral out of control.
Having the flexibility to control your food, drinks, and vendors gives you better value and more creative freedom to design a wedding that truly reflects you.
VMG comment: Excellent advice! Flexibility and creative freedom are game changers, especially for couples who may feel discouraged or a little pessimistic about being able to afford the day they’ve always dreamed of.
What is your number one tip for couples toward the end of the planning process?
As the day approaches, delegate tasks to trusted friends, family, or professionals. This allows you to be present and enjoy your wedding day without unnecessary stress.
Do you have any tips for couples who feel overwhelmed by too many options?

VMG comment: Having a vision to guide you is key! Really helps when you have to make those important decisions. I remember when planning my own wedding, I almost went the route of booking an all inclusive venue for both the ceremony and reception, despite knowing deep down it wasn’t what I wanted.
My entire life I dreamed of getting married on the beach. At one point, I was like, “this is a once in a lifetime thing for me, why would I not do what I had always envisioned?” Long story short, I had the wedding of my dreams on the beach in Coronado and found another location for the reception. Certainly no regrets there!
If you could change one thing about how weddings are typically planned, what would it be?
We would encourage a shift towards more personalized and less formulaic planning, allowing couples to break away from traditional expectations and create a day that genuinely represents them.
VMG comment: Totally agree! It’s such a big experience and investment, why not make it yours!
Can you share a memorable moment or favorite wedding experience you’ve had?
One memorable moment was a couple making a grand entrance by water, arriving at our venue via boat as their guests cheered from the deck—a unique and unforgettable experience.

What do you think sets your business apart in the wedding industry?
Our combination of a stunning waterfront location, flexible vendor policies, and the ability to BYOB offers couples a unique blend of luxury and affordability that's hard to find elsewhere.
