The Interview
Introduce yourself and tell us about your business:
I’m Jaclyn Campobasso, a San Diego-based wedding planner and designer, and the proud owner of In The Details for the past seven years. I’ve been in the wedding industry since I was 18, and my passion for creating beautiful, meaningful celebrations has only grown over the years.

I specialize in timeless, natural, and modern coastal designs that tell each couple’s unique love story. There’s nothing I love more than working on small, intimate events where every moment and detail feels deeply meaningful and personal.
Outside of weddings, I’m a proud wife and a dog and cat mom! While I’m not much of a coffee drinker, an ice-cold Coca-Cola on a wedding day is all I need to tackle any challenge with a smile and a calm, can-do attitude.
What inspired you to get into the wedding industry?
I was inspired to get into the wedding industry because of my love for organization, design, and helping others. There’s something so special about bringing a vision to life that might have felt overwhelming or out of reach for someone else. I also love how every wedding is completely unique, reflecting the personalities and love story of each couple—it’s such an honor to make their day truly feel like them.
And, of course, I’m a hopeless romantic at heart! There’s nothing better than seeing people celebrate their love story in the most authentic and meaningful way.
Veronica Martinez-Goodman comment: I love to see how wedding vendors bring in their individual strengths and deep levels of care to the work they do. Of course, a romantic person would make AMAZING weddings to honor the uniqueness of the couple. It’s like weaving their story into one incredibly special day.
How long have you been in this line of work, and what do you love most about it?
I’ve been in the food and beverage service industry since I was 18 and transitioned to weddings and corporate events after graduating college in 2015. My first job out of college was as an Event Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for a wedding venue, where I honed my skills in planning and logistics. From there, I took on an exciting role as an Event Presentation Coordinator and On-Field Game Producer for the MLS team, the Colorado Rapids.
What I love most about this industry is the fast-paced nature of it all and how every event is completely unique. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to create something truly special for clients, and I thrive on making their visions a reality.
VMG comment: We totally agree. Witnessing each unique wedding or event and the fun they have fills our cup and inspires us to make the next one just as good.
What specific services do you offer to couples, and what makes your approach unique?
I offer a range of services to fit every couple’s needs—from one-off planning meetings for those who just need a professional sounding board to full-service planning and design for a completely seamless experience.
What sets me apart is my ability to balance the big-picture vision with a sharp eye for detail. I’m passionate about creating an event that feels cohesive and intentional, ensuring that every element—from the overarching design and flow of the day to the smallest, often-overlooked details—is thoughtfully curated.
This balance means I can help my clients see how their ideas come together on a grand scale while also making sure the tiniest touches, like personalized place cards or perfectly timed transitions, are executed flawlessly. It’s this combination of strategic planning and creative finesse that allows me to bring a couple’s dream day to life while keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
VMG comment: That’s a major reason why we love working with you! The details are totally what make the experience meaningful for guests. We see it on their faces every event—happiness, relaxation, comfort. You name it.
How do you tailor your services to fit a couple’s unique vision or needs?
Every client is unique, and I believe in tailoring the experience to fit their specific needs and preferences. For example, I adjust my approach to match each client’s personality—ensuring that more laid-back, Type B clients feel calm and not overwhelmed, while detail-oriented, Type A clients receive all the structure and specifics they crave.
Some clients prefer more in-person meetings to feel hands-on, while others are planning from afar and need a virtual approach. That’s why I always start the process with an open and thorough conversation to understand their goals, preferences, and communication style. This ensures that the planning journey is enjoyable, stress-free, and perfectly aligned with their vision, no matter where they are or how they like to work.
What’s one thing couples might not know about what goes into your work?
One thing clients might not realize is the amount of behind-the-scenes coordination and problem-solving that goes into making a wedding day seamless. Wedding planners are constantly managing timelines, vendor communications, and logistics to ensure everything flows perfectly.
For example, we don’t just help book vendors—we carefully review contracts, confirm arrival times, coordinate load-ins and load-outs, and ensure every vendor knows the exact layout and expectations for the day. We also troubleshoot any issues that arise, like unexpected weather changes, last-minute guest count adjustments, or a missing boutonniere, all while keeping the couple unaware of any hiccups.
|
VMG comment: There really is so much that goes on behind the scenes! We have to admit… before getting into this business we were guilty of not realizing how much work vendors put in to prepare.
What’s a common mistake or regret you see, and how can couples avoid it?
A common mistake I see couples make is trying to do too much themselves for their wedding. While DIY projects can seem fun and manageable, they often create unnecessary last-minute stress and chaos.
Instead, I always recommend hiring experienced professionals who can offer expert guidance on how to achieve the overall look and feel you're aiming for on your wedding day.
|
VMG comment: Love this! We made this mistake and it’s a huge reason we started this business.
What is your number one tip for newly engaged couples planning their wedding?
My advice to couples is to hire some sort of professional planner or coordinator from the very start of your wedding planning. Even if you’re having a smaller or more intimate event, a professional can provide invaluable guidance from the beginning, helping you stay organized, manage your budget, and avoid unnecessary stress.
A planner or coordinator can also help you make informed decisions, recommend trusted vendors, and ensure all the moving parts of your day come together smoothly. From navigating timelines to handling last-minute changes, having someone experienced by your side means you can focus on enjoying your engagement and, most importantly, your wedding day, knowing everything is being taken care of for you by a professional.
What is your number one tip for couples toward the end of the planning process?
|
You’ll want to put thought and intention into each of these elements to make them truly personal and meaningful. Whether it's curating the perfect playlist, selecting decor that reflects your style, or writing your vows, giving yourself plenty of time ensures you can focus on the details and avoid the stress of rushing through them at the end. Start early, and you’ll be able to enjoy the final weeks leading up to your wedding without the added pressure.
Do you have any tips for couples who feel overwhelmed by too many options?
If you're feeling overwhelmed by too many options, my advice is to hire a planner. A planner can help narrow down your vendors to just a few that are the best fit for your style, needs, and budget—saving you from hours of scrolling online and decision fatigue.
A planner and designer can also create a design board from the very beginning to make sure all of your vendors are aligned with your vision for the day. This helps ensure that everything, from the flowers to the lighting and rentals, matches the vibe you want to create. With a planner guiding the process, you can be presented with more intentional options instead of endless possibilities.
If you could change one thing about how weddings are typically planned, what would it be?
One of the things I would change is the pressure to make everything "perfect." Weddings often come with the idea that everything has to be flawless—every detail, every moment. While it’s natural to want your day to be beautiful, focusing too much on perfection can cause a lot of stress.
|
I’d love to see couples focus less on making everything perfect and more on creating a celebration that reflects their love and personalities. Letting go of that perfectionist mindset helps you enjoy the day more and really take in the meaning of it all.
VMG comment: Yes, the reality is that at least one thing will not go as planned! But everything will usually turn out just fine regardless.
Can you share a memorable moment or favorite wedding experience you’ve had?
It’s really hard to choose just one moment, but my favorite experiences are always when the dance floor opens up. There’s something so special about looking around and seeing all the love, fun, and happiness filling the room. It’s when everyone lets loose, connects, and truly celebrates the couple. Watching the energy and joy in those moments is one of the best parts of my job—it’s a reminder of what all the hard work and planning is for. There’s nothing like seeing people come together to celebrate love in such a genuine and loving way.
What do you think sets your business apart in the wedding industry?
There are a few things that sets In The Details apart in the wedding industry. First is open communication. You'll never be the one following up with me or trying to get a response— I believe in open and quick communication to keep everything moving seamlessly throughout the planning process.

In addition to that, I bring a supportive, positive, and calm presence to every wedding I work on. My goal is to make the planning journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible, so couples feel at ease every step of the way. Whether we're navigating challenges or celebrating milestones, I’m there to offer encouragement and keep everything on track with a positive attitude.
Finally, I have a love and eye for timeless and natural designs, ensuring every event reflects the couple's unique style in a way that feels authentic and enduring. From the smallest details to the overall vision, I aim to create an experience that feels both beautiful and true to who the couple is.
VMG comment: We can certainly confirm this is true! It is always such a pleasure to work with you, Jaclyn.
