The truth is, beyond a venue, even this moment was planned. Among the wedding goers who were lucky to experience such unforgettable events, we recognize how we all were a part of a carefully choreographed evening—one that perfectly lives up to the beauty of its venue.


Planning a wedding is no small feat. A LOT goes into it,


After hosting our own San Diego wedding, we received several compliments about how fun it was—one guest even told us it was the best wedding they’d ever attended! 


Here’s how we did it, along with tips to ensure your San Diego wedding is a hit.

The key to a memorable wedding is prioritizing your guests' experience from start to finish. 

Consider their comfort and enjoyment every step of the way. Sounds simple, but what steps can we take?

  • Be Organized: A well-structured timeline can make all the difference. 

    • Inform your guests about what to expect before and during the wedding. 

    • A clear schedule reduces confusion and keeps everyone engaged.

  • Plan the Flow and Energy: Think about the energy levels you want to create throughout the evening. For instance, you'll want high-energy moments leading up to the dancing.


A simple timeline goes a long way!


 

Example Timeline for Your Reception

Here’s our timeline that worked wonderfully for our beautiful San Diego wedding reception:

  • 5:30 PM - Guests Arrive: Start with slower, more relaxing music as guests settle in and mingle.

  • 6:00 PM - Dinner Service: Allow guests to enjoy a delicious meal. This should come at the start of the reception so that guests don't become impatient and hungry.

  • 6:45 PM - Speeches: This includes heartfelt thank-yous from the bride and groom. Make sure the entire time for speeches isn't too long!

  • 7:00 PM - Special Moments: First dance, parent-child dances, and couple dances set a romantic tone.

  • 7:15 PM - Cake Cutting: For a fun twist, we included the "Who Wears the Cake" game, where guests vote for the chance to cake the loser!

  • 7:30 PM - Group Games: Keep the energy high with games like the Shoe Game, Musical Chairs, and a Ping Pong Tissue Box Shake.

  • 8:30 PM - 10:30 PM - Party Time: Transition to classic party songs and high energy music. Get everyone on the dance floor!


 

Remember, a timeline lets you allocate for fun and set the night’s pace. While this schedule is just an example that worked for us, what matters is YOU plan the vibe. And don’t worry, with all your loved ones there, there will still be plenty of spontaneous fun!

Okay, so you have your schedule set. What next?

  • Drinks & Late-Night Snacks: An open bar with a variety of drink options, paired with late-night snacks, ensures guests stay refreshed and energized.

  • Entertainment Options: Unique entertainment options so guests can create their own experience without feeling put on the spot. These might look like:

  • Personal Touches: Include thoughtful decor and favors that resonate with your guests. The important thing to remember here is to make sure these aren’t strictly about the couple. Make some about the guests or San Diego too!

Investing in a good DJ and MC is crucial. Choose someone who understands and meets your vibe and can get everyone involved and dancing. 


A fun playlist filled with classic party songs, along with personal touches like glow sticks or fun shot glasses, add a festive atmosphere.
